[FAQ] Frequently asked questions
How do I build a storage unit in an underground garage?
First, decide how much space you want to partition off, then it’s a good idea to get a quote for that partition. We encourage you to use our instructional video. The video shows how easy it is to plan and price a storage-unit partition.
Are administration approvals required to build a storage unit?
To keep the structure stable, the unit’s wall profiles must be fixed with screws up to 5 cm long into the garage floor and ceiling. That is why – especially while the building is still under the developer’s warranty – it is important to confirm with the building administration that interference with the permanent parts of the property is allowed.
What are system (systemic) storage units?
In modern construction, storage units have taken the form of neat partitions made of steel mesh or aluminium slats, usually placed on the lower floors of a residential building or in unused parts of a garage hall.
What can be stored in a storage unit?
Under the regulations, a unit located in a garage hall can hold bicycles, scooters and all kinds of other single-track vehicles. Keeping items related to day-to-day car maintenance is also not prohibited.
How do I arrange a storage unit?
Arranging a unit is an individual matter. You should consider what is to be kept inside and what type and size of metal furniture to choose. Parking Magic Box will soon add system furniture for storage units to its range, which will help you arrange the space optimally.
What should I keep in mind when planning a storage unit?
Pay attention to the floor and ceiling of the place where you plan to build the unit. You should also measure the height from the floor to the highest point at the planned location. The unit’s doors are an important aspect too — where they are to be placed. We show all construction-related aspects in our instructional video.
Can storage boxes be installed without drilling into the ceiling?
Yes, in many cases this is possible. The Magic Box system offers solutions where the main fixing is to the floor and mounting to the ceiling is not required.
What materials are Magic Box storage units made of?
The structures are made of certified, non-combustible steel materials. This matters both for the durability of the build and for meeting the technical and fire-safety requirements in underground garages.
What must not be stored in a storage unit?
In units partitioned with the Magic Box system, you should not store flammable, explosive or toxic materials, or any other substances that pose a fire hazard.
Can a storage unit be adapted to a specific spot in the garage?
Yes, storage units can be adapted to the dimensions and layout of a specific space. This matters especially when there are columns, services or limited height in the garage. As a result, the build makes better use of the available space and is more convenient in everyday use.
Are storage units only suitable for new buildings?
No, such solutions are used both in new developments and in garages already in use. In many buildings it is precisely a later build that creates additional storage space when residents start to run out of room in their flat or basement.
Is a storage unit in an underground garage convenient for everyday use?
Yes, provided it is well matched to the location and the way it is used. A big advantage is quick access to your belongings without going down to a distant storeroom or carrying everything up to your flat. It’s a convenient solution for people who want to keep seasonal equipment and less frequently used items close to their parking space.
